Short notes

Year-end finding register, logistics

“They reopened twelve findings from our year-end review and walked the audit committee through which three still lacked operating evidence. The pack was ready two days before the meeting.”

— Finance director, Kowloon logistics group

Retail reconciliations follow-up

“The sampling felt thorough without turning into a second full audit. We still wish they had flagged one bank-reconcile delay earlier in the week, but the final status map was clear.”

— Internal audit manager, retail chain

Management letter wording

“Our first draft promised automated matching that operations could not deliver this quarter. Their review forced us to write a manual control with a real owner and date — awkward in the moment, useful with the auditor.”

— Group financial controller, property services

Regulatory observation pack

“They refused to mark two items closed when the policy update existed but staff training had not run. That honesty saved us from a weak submission.”

— Compliance lead, licensed intermediary

Extended story: payables cut-off after a qualified management letter

A mid-size trading company in Kwun Tong entered the second half of the year with eight open payables findings. Management had closed five on the tracker based on a new checklist. Netdataservices was asked to perform a remediation follow-up ahead of the October audit committee.

Fieldwork re-tested cut-off around month-end. Three of the “closed” items still showed invoices posted to the wrong period in the sample. Two items were genuinely operating. The remaining three were redesign work still in progress — accurately left open.

The status report separated evidence-backed closure from checklist aspiration. The committee deferred one capital request until the cut-off sample cleared on a second mini follow-up six weeks later. The client’s mild frustration was the extra calendar time; their stated gain was avoiding a second awkward conversation with the external auditor.

Extended story: treasury access reviews for a multi-entity group

A family-controlled group needed verification that privileged treasury access removed after a prior review stayed removed across four entities. Interviews alone were not enough — we matched access extracts to the remediation plan and found one dormant profile reinstated during a system refresh.

The finding was reopened with a narrow re-test plan. No broad “control culture” narrative was added. The group used the schedule in its lender information pack the following month.
